The\nproject was carried out by TIP TOP Oberfl\u00e4chenschutz Elbe and serves as a prime\nexample of how a technically reliable and economically viable solution can be\nimplemented even under challenging conditions. Thanks to this measure, safe\noperation of the power plant is ensured until the planned end of coal-fired power\ngeneration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applications in the field of flue gas desulfurization\u2014a key process for reducing sulfur dioxide\nin exhaust gases\u2014place high demands on the material. In this environment, components are\nconstantly exposed to high levels of stress caused by moisture, chemical influences, and\ncorrosive media. Steel structures in particular, such as scrubbers and ducts, therefore require\neffective protection against corrosion, wear, and chemical stress.<\/p>\n<p>At the Fenne power plant, the washers were completely re-lined with rubber by REMA TIP\nTOP. The proven CHEMOLINE 4B system was used, with a coating thickness of 4 millimeters\napplied over an area of approximately 2,400 square meters. In areas subject to particularly\nhigh stress, a two-layer application with a total thickness of 8 millimeters was implemented. In\naddition, the raw gas duct was completely lined over an area of approximately 535 square\nmeters using the COROFLAKE 23 coating system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe requirements for flue gas desulfurization systems are clearly defined, yet technically\ndemanding. A key factor is a protective coating that remains permanently impermeable and\ndurable, functioning reliably even under varying operating conditions,\u201d says Markus Potyka,\nSenior Construction Manager and Coating Inspector at TIP TOP Oberfl\u00e4chenschutz Elbe. \u201cOur materials are characterized in particular by their high diffusion resistance, thereby offering\neffective protection against the penetration of corrosive media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The main challenge of this project concerned the general conditions. REMA TIP TOP was\ncalled in at short notice to join an already ongoing project and took on the planning and\nimplementation within a significantly shortened time frame. The project was carried out on-site\non a 24\/7 basis and was organized by the construction management, project management,\napplication engineering, and quality assurance teams. \u201cTaking on and executing the project at\nshort notice under significant time pressure demonstrates our operational strength in project\nexecution,\u201d explains Michael Meyer, Project Manager at TIP TOP Oberfl\u00e4chenschutz Elbe.\n\u201cThe close collaboration among all departments involved \u2013 from technical design to on-site\nimplementation \u2013 was crucial.\u201d<br \/>\nauf der Baustelle.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>The Fenne Power Plant is a long-standing industrial site in the Saarland region of Germany. It\nconsists of several plant complexes. In the future, the power plant will operate on a limited\nschedule. This places additional demands on the durability of the protective systems because\nthe constant start-up and shutdown cycles cause significant corrosion-related wear. For the\noperator, this approach offers clear economic benefits. At the same time, the plant underwent\ntechnical refurbishment to ensure safe operation in the coming years.
